Systematic Tests of Demulsifying Agents
There are available numerous commerial demulsifying agents an emulsion breakrs for the demulsification of crude oil,
waste oil or refinery residues containing comparatively few content of water (w/o emulsions with water content up to 30 percent).
Referring to this technical information and expert knowledge are also available.
It is pretty much the same for waste water treatment with separation of oil or organic matter
(such as cooling lubricants, native oils coming from food processing industry, o/w emulsions leftover crude oil desalting or organic matter coming from paper or leather industries).
For that emulsions an oil content up to 5 percent is typically.
Furthermore there are emulsions which are not the w/o type and not the o/w type (more than 40 percent
of water and more than 40 percent organic substance).
Or as a result of properties of the organic substances that emulsions are not separable good enough
by means of classic w/o or o/w breakers (demulsifiers) respectively the conventional separation technique.
Or the applicability of such emulsion breaker products is not investigated for that emulsions. So
corresponding product offers of breakers are not manageable or assessable without some laboratory tests.
